Barbados is the most easterly of the Caribbean
Islands. Essentially a coral island with an area of 166
square miles, it is situated approximately 1600 miles
southeast of Miami, Florida.
An independent country since November 30, 1966,
Barbados is well known for its high level of political,
economic, social stability and integrity of its
institutions. The country has a mature democracy
with elections held every five years. There are two
political parties, the Barbados Labour Party and the
Democratic Labour Party.
Barbados has a parliamentary style government,
with a House of Representatives and Senate. The
island’s first parliament was established
in 1639. The legal system of Barbados is based
on English Common Law as amended by statute
to meet local requirements. The members of
the judiciary, in performing the judicial acts, are
independent of the executive and legislative
functions of government.
Barbados with a well educated and skilled
population of 275,000 has a well developed
infrastructure and an excellent level of professional
service.
A new modern airport, daily flights from Canada,
the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States
and a developed telecommunications system, make
doing business in Barbados a pleasure.
